Chart every quest on the map.

Obsidian Quest Expedition is a Sydney gaming blog plotting reviews, lore deep-dives and speedrun routes like stations on a transit line — so you always know your next stop.

Atmospheric fantasy game scene

The route so far

A line drawn through a decade of play.

From a single review posted in a Surry Hills terrace to a full editorial map, here are the stations we passed to get here.

2014

First station opened

A weekend blog covering local RPG nights out of Albion Street. Twelve reviews in the first year, all written after midnight.

2017

Deep-dive junction added

Long-form lore breakdowns and mechanics essays joined the line, pulling in readers from across the Sydney indie scene.

2020

Speedrun express launched

Route guides and frame-perfect strategy maps became a weekly fixture, verified against community leaderboards.

2024

The full network

Reviews, deep-dives and speedruns now run as three connected lines, updated four times a week by a small Surry Hills crew.

How we ride each game

Four stops from launch to published verdict.

01

Boarding

We buy the game at retail — no sponsored keys — and log 20+ hours before a single word is written.

02

Mapping

Systems, story and performance get scored on a shared rubric so every review sits on the same line.

03

Interchange

A second editor cross-checks claims, captures fresh footage and flags anything that needs a rerun.

04

Terminus

The verdict ships with a clear score, a spoiler-safe summary and a route map for what to play next.

Reader signals

What the platform crowd says.

"Their speedrun route map shaved four minutes off my personal best. The splits are clearer than anything I found elsewhere."

Marcus D., Redfern

"Finally a review site that buys its own copies. I trust the scores because I can see the hours behind them."

Priya S., Newtown

Reviewed March 2025

"The lore deep-dives read like a good transit map — everything connected, nothing wasted. My go-to before starting any RPG."

Ella T., Bondi

Before you board

Questions from the queue.

How often do you publish?

We ship four pieces a week — typically two reviews, one deep-dive and one speedrun route. Big releases occasionally push extra coverage onto the schedule. Everything posts in Sydney time, usually before midday.

Do you accept sponsored reviews?

No. We buy every game at retail and never take payment for a score. If a studio sends a preview build, we label the coverage clearly as a preview rather than a review.

Can I pitch a guest deep-dive?

Yes — we run a handful of guest pieces each quarter. Send a short outline and a writing sample to our contact address. Paid rates start at AUD $180 per accepted long-form article.

Which platforms do you cover?

PC, PlayStation, Xbox and Switch, with a soft spot for indie titles. Our speedrun coverage focuses on games with an active community leaderboard so we can verify every route.
